CMCP Certification Information and Eligibility

Do you have less than five years of experience in commercial real estate management? Do you want to earn a certification that will jump start your career? Then the Certified Manager of Commercial Properties (CMCP) certification may be for you.

In July 2019, the Commercial Real Estate Certification Institute (CRECI) launched the CMCP certification. This certification is for those who are new to CRE or have less than five years of experience in the industry. Eligibility for this certification is as follows:

Why Earn the CMCP?

The CMCP exam is based on rigorous standards and reflects the industry’s latest best practices. For employees, the CMCP certification will communicate to employers that you are an effective property manager with a strong understanding of the responsibilities of your role. For employers, the certification can quickly assist with on-boarding new property managers by assessing industry knowledge and career potential.

CMCP Online Prep Course

BOMA International and BOMI International are offering an online CMCP prep course. This course satisfies to the 30-hour training requirement.

This course includes:

  • Unlimited online access for 6 months
  • 7 easy-to-navigate sections covering topics in the CMCP exam
  • A tutorial video to highlight course nuances and functionality of the learning portal
  • A 50-question practice exam, which can be taken multiple times
  • A learner guide to help navigate the course and provide recommendations for the length of time to spend in each area
  • A 250-page digital course book, which allows learners to search topics, find keywords, highlight, take notes and create flash cards
  • End-of-section review questions, so learners can tailor their experience based on their scores and understanding of the content.

CMCP Exam Domains and Questions

The exam consists of 125 multiple-choice questions, 100 of which are scored and 25 of which are not scored. Students will take the exam at a Pearson Vue testing center and will have up to 2.25 hours to complete the exam.

Questions will cover seven domains (outlined in the pie chart below) that reflect industry best practices and the body of knowledge necessary for a successful career in property management.

After taking the exam, candidates (whether they pass or fail) will receive an exam score report that breaks down their performance in each of these seven domains. If candidates do not pass the CMCP exam, they may schedule a re-test after 30 days (up to 3 re-tests in a 12-month period). The fee to re-take the exam is $295.

Recertification Criteria and Fee

To maintain the CMCP certification, candidates must complete at least 45 hours of continuing education in commercial property management (including 3 hours of CRE ethics) every 3 years, demonstrate CRE employment within 90 days and pay the recertification fee of $325.
